LIGHT THAT FLAME
The next MARROW album is still a long way from being finished, but another piece of it has now been written. Light That Flame is the second song I've completed lyrically for the next album project.
At this stage, I'm deliberately calling everything a work in progress. There's no release date attached to the album and I'm not interested in rushing through the process just to get another project out. This time, I want to document more of the journey while it's actually happening — from the first lyrics and early ideas through to recording, production, mixing and whatever changes happen along the way.
Where the idea came from
The song begins with attraction: a room full of people, music playing, lights low — and suddenly one person becomes the only person you really notice.

But as I continued writing, I didn't want the entire song to simply be about physical attraction. The story gradually becomes more personal. By the second verse, we've left the crowded room behind. It's now two people driving through the night, thinking about their lives and wondering where this connection might lead.
“Funny how forever can begin with a touch.”
Dreams, relationships and finding the same road
One of the ideas at the heart of the song is that two people can care deeply about each other without giving up their individual ambitions. Maybe the beautiful part is discovering whether two separate journeys can eventually travel alongside each other.
“I got big dreams, you got yours too,
Maybe there's a road where they both come true.”
There's no promise that everything will be perfect. The lyric comes back to something much simpler: trust.
The vulnerable moment
The bridge strips the idea back even further. I can already imagine the production becoming quieter here — the beat disappearing or becoming extremely minimal, the vocal moving forward, and then everything building back into the final chorus.
Right now, though, these are still words and ideas. That's exactly the stage of the journey I want to share.

The next album — one song at a time
That's where Light That Flame stands today. The lyrics are written, but the song — and the album around it — still have plenty of room to evolve.
Rather than only showing you the finished record, I want to occasionally open the studio door and show you the unfinished ideas too. Some things will change. Some lyrics might eventually change. Production ideas will come and go. Songs may sound completely different months from now. That's what work in progress means.
