How SELF-MADE Was Built

When I began SELF-MADE, I did not want to rush an album simply to have a release. The project developed over approximately two years and eventually became a focused seven-song debut.

The title describes more than being independent. It represents the process of teaching myself, investing in tools, developing workflows, recording vocals, revisiting mixes and learning how each decision changes the finished record.

My role begins with the creative direction. I work on the songwriting and vocal performance, then move through recording, arrangement and production. I use modern digital tools throughout that process, including stem separation, EQ and frequency-cleaning tools, vocal processing, level management, mixing and mastering software. Some modern plug-ins include intelligent or AI-assisted functions, but the creative choices remain mine.

I also collaborate. The album and my wider work have involved other singers and musicians, including people based in the UK and collaborators connected to Seychelles, Africa and the United States. Being independent does not mean working in isolation.

SELF-MADE does not mean made without technology. It means the direction, work and responsibility remain mine.

My production process has changed enormously during those two years. Earlier recordings taught me what not to do just as much as later recordings taught me what worked. I became more careful with vocal processing, more conscious of balance and more interested in preserving character rather than polishing everything until it became anonymous.

That development is part of the album. I want listeners to hear not only seven finished songs, but the result of two years of learning how I want MARROW to sound.
