Hot on Fire ft. Veya — Behind the Production

A look at how Veya’s voice helped shape the record, and why the best production decisions sometimes come from knowing when to give a great vocalist room to be themselves.

One of the things I love most about producing music is hearing how another artist can completely change the energy of a record. Hot on Fire was one of those tracks.

Working with Veya brought another dimension to the song. She has a natural tone and presence that doesn’t need to be forced. Give her space in a record and she knows exactly what to do with it.

Building the production around the vocal

From the production side, my job became less about trying to change her vocal and more about building the mix around it — finding the right balance, giving both our voices their own space, controlling the dynamics and letting the chemistry between the vocals become part of the production itself.

A good collaboration is not about making every voice sound the same. It is about protecting what makes each artist distinctive while making sure everything belongs in the same record.

Veya brought her own character

Veya absolutely delivered. Talent is one thing, but having your own character when you sing is something else entirely. She has that.

Her contribution helped give Hot on Fire its own identity, and it was a genuinely enjoyable record to build together. I’m proud of what we created, and I want people who discover Veya through my music to hear what else she can do.
